How much Weight Gain during Pregnancy is Normal for Me?


Most of the women gain weight approximately 10 kg to about 12.5 kg during the course of their pregnancy. The healthy weight gain that occurs during pregnancy usually depends on the initial weight that you had before getting pregnant.

How is BMI calculate and what is BMI

Here is a simple guideline that you can have a look at:

  • Women that are underweight that means have a body mass index (BMI) of less than 18.5 have been recommended to put on 12 to 17 kg
  • Women that come under normal BMI range from 18.5 to 25 can put on around 11 to 15 kg weight
  • Women that are overweight and have a BMI that ranges between 25 and 30 put on around 7 to 10 kg weight.



·      Women that suffer from obesity and have a BMI of more than 30 should be gaining 5 to 9 kg weight.

Please keep in mind that in case you are expecting twins, the weight that you will gain will be a few kilograms higher and that is completely normal.  Also, don't get too stressed about these weight guidelines as its more important to have a weight gain that is safe and at healthy levels for you and your baby.
