How is my due date determined?
In
a normal situation, the due date is about 280 days also called as 40 weeks or
ten months (sometimes called as lunar months) from day one of your last period.
In case you don't have regular periods or 28 days apart, the due date can
slightly be different from this specific 280 days rule. Your doctor might ask
you to get an ultrasound done so that the due date can be more accurately
determined.
When
you get to know about the due date of your baby, it helps you in monitoring the
growth of the baby in an accurate manner. Because of some of the tests that are
done in the lab have changed during the different months of pregnancy, having a
due date will also be allowing you for tracking these tests in a better way and
also in case of preterm labor, you will have the right indications.
Please
keep in mind that due dates are just estimates. Each pregnancy is unique and
the delivery of the baby happens when it is ready. Make sure that you speak to
your gynecologist about your due date.
Most of the births take place within a week of the estimated due date.
